Understanding Parenting Payment rates and income tests

Parenting Payment Single

Parenting Payment Single (PPS) is the main income support payment for single parents with a child under 14. The maximum rate is $987.70 per fortnight. You can earn up to a certain amount before your payment starts to reduce.

Parenting Payment Partnered

Parenting Payment Partnered (PPP) is for partnered parents with a child under 6. The rate and income test differ from PPS. Your combined income and your partner's income are both considered.

Income Test

Both PPS and PPP have income tests that gradually reduce your payment as your income increases. Single parents generally have a more generous income free area and cut-off compared to partnered parents.

Key Thresholds
