Understanding Family Tax Benefit

Everything you need to know about FTB in Australia

FTB Part A

FTB Part A is paid per child and helps with the cost of raising children. The maximum rate depends on the age of each child -- $222.04 per fortnight for children 0-12 and $289.10 for children 13-15. Payment reduces by 20 cents per dollar of family income over $61,027.

FTB Part B

FTB Part B provides extra help for single parent families or families where one parent is the main income earner. The rate depends on the age of your youngest child -- $181.44 per fortnight for children under 5 and $126.56 for children 5-18.

Rent Assistance

If you pay rent above a minimum threshold and receive more than the base rate of FTB Part A, you may also receive Rent Assistance to help with housing costs.

Income Testing

FTB Part A is income-tested on combined family income. Once family income exceeds $61,027, the payment reduces by 20 cents per dollar over the threshold. FTB Part B reduces based on the secondary earner's income above $6,059 per year. Single parents have no Part B income test on their own income.
