Frequently Asked Questions

What is the montante contributivo?

The montante contributivo is the total pot of contributions you have built up over your working life, revalued each year based on GDP growth. It is the base used to calculate your contributory pension. The higher your montante, the higher your pension.

What is the coefficiente di trasformazione?

The coefficiente di trasformazione is a conversion rate that turns your montante contributivo into an annual pension. It depends on your age at retirement: the older you retire, the higher the coefficient (and the higher your pension). For age 67, the coefficient is about 5.391%.

When can I retire in Italy?

The standard retirement age (pensione di vecchiaia) is 67 with at least 20 years of contributions. Early retirement (pensione anticipata) is possible with 42 years and 10 months of contributions for men, or 41 years and 10 months for women. Quota rules may also apply.

Note: This calculator uses the contributivo method. If you have contributions before 1996, your pension may be calculated using the retributivo or misto method. Consult INPS or a patronato for exact figures.
