What are the LVR restrictions in New Zealand?
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand sets LVR speed limits. Most owner-occupier borrowers need at least a 20% deposit (80% LVR). Investors typically need a 35% deposit (65% LVR). First-home buyers may qualify for exceptions.
Fixed vs floating rate -- which is better?
Fixed rates lock in your repayments for 1 to 5 years, giving you certainty. Floating rates can change at any time but often let you make extra repayments without penalties. Many borrowers split their loan between both.
How much deposit do I need?
Most banks need at least 20% of the property price as a deposit. First-home buyers may get a loan with as little as 5-10% through schemes like Kainga Ora First Home Loan. A larger deposit means lower repayments and less interest over time.
RBNZ-Aligned: Uses current LVR restrictions. Rates change regularly so check with your bank for the latest offers.
