Veelgestelde Vragen

What is the minimum wage in the Netherlands in 2026?

For workers aged 21 and over, the minimum wage is EUR 14.71 gross per hour from 1 January 2026. It rose to EUR 14.99 per hour on 1 July 2026. The government updates the rate every 1 January and 1 July.

Why does my monthly minimum wage depend on my hours?

Since 1 January 2024 the Netherlands only has an hourly minimum wage. There is no fixed monthly amount any more. Your monthly pay is your hourly rate times your contract hours. A full-time week can be 36, 38 or 40 hours, depending on your sector or CAO.

How much is the youth minimum wage?

Workers under 21 get a fixed share of the adult rate: 80% at age 20, 60% at 19, 50% at 18, 39.5% at 17, 34.5% at 16 and 30% at 15. From 1 July 2026 a 20-year-old earns at least EUR 11.99 per hour and an 18-year-old at least EUR 7.50.

Is holiday allowance included in the minimum wage?

No. You get at least 8% vakantiegeld (holiday allowance) on top of your gross minimum wage. It is usually paid out in May. This calculator shows it as a separate amount.

How much tax do I pay on the minimum wage?

Your employer takes wage tax and national insurance from your gross pay. Two tax credits — the algemene heffingskorting and the arbeidskorting — cut the bill a lot at this income level. A full-time adult keeps roughly 91% of their gross pay. Young workers on youth rates often pay no income tax at all.

When does the minimum wage go up again?

The minimum wage changes every 1 January and 1 July. It follows average wage growth in collective agreements (CAOs). The next change is on 1 January 2027.
