What is My Future Fund?
My Future Fund is Ireland’s new workplace pension scheme. It started on 1 January 2026. If you are aged 23 to 60, earn more than €20,000 a year and have no pension at work, you are enrolled automatically. You save a small slice of your pay, your employer matches it, and the State adds a top-up.
How much does it cost me?
In 2026, 2027 and 2028 you pay 1.5% of your gross pay. On €45,000 that is €675 a year, or about €12.98 a week. The rate rises in steps: 3% from 2029, 4.5% from 2032 and 6% from 2035. Contributions are worked out on pay up to €80,000 a year.
What do my employer and the State add?
Your employer matches your contribution euro for euro. The State adds €1 for every €3 you put in. So for every €3 you save, €7 goes into your pot. Employer and State contributions are also capped at €80,000 of pay.
Can I opt out?
Yes. You can opt out in months 7 and 8 after you are enrolled. You get your own contributions back, but the employer and State money stays invested in your pot. If you opt out, you are enrolled again after two years if you still qualify.
When can I take the money out?
You can take your savings when you reach the State Pension age, which is currently 66. The fund is locked until then, so your savings are kept for retirement.
What if I already pay into a pension?
You are not auto-enrolled if you already pay into a pension through your payroll. My Future Fund is only for workers who have no pension cover at work.
