Standard Rate (23%)
Applies to most goods and services not covered by other rates, including electronics, clothing, professional services, and general consumer goods.
Reduced Rate (13.5%)
Applies to fuel (coal, gas, electricity), building services, cleaning services, short-term car hire, waste disposal, and certain property-related services.
Second Reduced Rate (9%)
Applies to hospitality and tourism sectors including restaurant meals, hotel accommodation, newspapers, printed matter, sports facilities, and hairdressing.
Zero Rate (0%)
Applies to most food and drink (excluding alcohol, soft drinks, and restaurant meals), children's clothing and footwear, books, oral medicines, and exports.
Revenue Commissioners: VAT rates are current as of 2025. VAT-registered businesses must file VAT returns (bi-monthly or quarterly) and pay VAT collected to Revenue.
