Invoice Composition
Everything you need to know about GST on invoices in Australia
GST on invoices
If you are registered for GST, you must charge 10% GST on most goods and services you sell. Your invoice should show the amount excluding GST, the GST component, and the total including GST.
GST-free items
Some items are GST-free, including basic food, some medical services, and some educational courses. Toggle GST off for individual line items that are GST-free.
Tax invoice requirements
A valid tax invoice must include your ABN, the date, a description of items, the GST amount (for invoices over $82.50), and the total price. For invoices $1,000 or more, the buyer's name or ABN is also required.
When do you need to register for GST?
You must register for GST if your annual turnover is $75,000 or more ($150,000 for non-profit organisations). You can voluntarily register even if your turnover is below this threshold, which may be beneficial if you have significant GST-claimable expenses.
