Everything you need to know about Jobseeker Support in New Zealand
What is Jobseeker Support?
Jobseeker Support is a weekly payment from Work and Income for people aged 18-64 who are looking for work or unable to work due to a health condition, injury, or disability. You must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident and meet income and asset tests.
Income abatement
If you earn income while receiving Jobseeker Support, your payment is reduced (abated). You can earn up to $160 per week before your benefit is reduced. Income between $160 and $250 per week is abated at 30 cents in the dollar, and income over $250 per week is abated at 70 cents in the dollar.
Obligations
To receive Jobseeker Support, you must actively look for work and accept suitable employment offers. If you are on a Health Condition or Disability pathway, you need medical certificates and may have different obligations.
