PAYG withholding
PAYG (Pay As You Go) withholding is the tax your employer deducts from each pay before you receive it. The amount depends on your annual salary, whether you claim the tax-free threshold (via your TFN declaration), and whether you have a HECS-HELP debt.
Tax-free threshold
You can claim the tax-free threshold from one employer only. The first $18,200 of your income is tax-free. If you have a second job, you should not claim the threshold from that employer -- otherwise you'll likely have a tax bill at end of year.
Superannuation
Your employer contributes 12% SG on top of your salary. This is paid to your super fund and doesn't appear as a deduction from your payslip. It is shown separately to give you a complete picture of your employment cost.
ATO-Aligned: Uses 2025-26 PAYG withholding rates. Actual withholding may vary slightly due to rounding in the ATO's weekly/fortnightly schedules.
