What is ILOE insurance?
ILOE stands for Involuntary Loss of Employment. It is the UAE's job-loss insurance scheme. If you lose your job through no fault of your own, it pays you 60% of your average basic salary for up to 3 months. Most employees in the federal government and private sector must subscribe.
How much does ILOE cost?
It depends on your basic salary. If it is AED 16,000 or less (Category A), you pay AED 5 per month plus 5% VAT. If it is above AED 16,000 (Category B), you pay AED 10 per month plus VAT. That is about AED 63 or AED 126 per year including VAT. You can pay monthly, quarterly, twice a year, or once a year.
How much will I get if I lose my job?
You get 60% of your average basic salary over the 6 months before you lost your job. Category A payments are capped at AED 10,000 per month. Category B payments are capped at AED 20,000 per month. Each claim pays for up to 3 months. The lifetime limit is 12 monthly payments in total.
When can I claim?
You must have paid premiums for at least 12 months in a row. You must claim within 30 days of losing your job. You cannot claim if you resigned, or if you were dismissed for a disciplinary reason. You must also still be in the UAE. Payments stop if you start a new job.
What is the fine for not subscribing?
The fine for not subscribing is AED 400. If you subscribe but do not pay your premiums for more than 3 months, you can be fined AED 200 and your insurance certificate can be cancelled. Unpaid fines can block new work permits, so it is worth staying up to date.
Who does not need to subscribe?
Business owners and investors, domestic workers, workers on temporary contracts, people under 18, and retirees who get a pension and start a new job are all exempt. Everyone else working in the federal government or private sector should subscribe at iloe.ae.

How the Involuntary Loss of Employment scheme protects your income if you lose your job
What is the ILOE scheme?
ILOE stands for Involuntary Loss of Employment. It is the UAE's national job-loss insurance scheme, set up under Federal Decree-Law No. 13 of 2022. It gives workers a cash payment for up to 3 months if they lose their job through no fault of their own. It is mandatory for employees in the federal government and the private sector, including free zones outside DIFC and ADGM arrangements.
How are the two categories decided?
Your category depends on your basic salary, not your total pay. Category A is for a basic salary of AED 16,000 or less — the premium is AED 5 per month plus VAT. Category B is for a basic salary above AED 16,000 — the premium is AED 10 per month plus VAT. You can pay monthly, quarterly, every 6 months, or once a year through iloe.ae, kiosks, banking apps, and other approved channels.
How is the benefit worked out?
The benefit is 60% of your average basic salary over the 6 months before you became unemployed. Category A pays up to AED 10,000 per month and Category B up to AED 20,000 per month. For example, if your average basic salary was AED 12,000, you would get AED 7,200 per month. Each claim pays for up to 3 months, or until you start a new job if that happens sooner.
What are the conditions for claiming?
You must have paid premiums for at least 12 months in a row before losing your job. You must claim within 30 days of your last working day. The job loss must be involuntary — you cannot claim if you resigned or were dismissed for a disciplinary reason under the Labour Law. You must be in the UAE, and there must be no absconding report against you. The insurer pays the first benefit within about 2 weeks of an approved claim.
What are the fines for not subscribing or not paying?
A worker who fails to subscribe within the deadline is fined AED 400. A subscriber who leaves premiums unpaid for more than 3 months can be fined AED 200 and have their insurance certificate cancelled. Unpaid fines can be deducted from wages through the Wage Protection System and can block new work permits until they are settled.
Is there a limit on how much I can claim over my career?
Yes. The scheme pays a maximum of 12 monthly benefit payments in total across all claims during your working life in the UAE. Since each claim pays at most 3 months, that means up to 4 full claims. Once you go back to work and keep paying premiums, you can build up the right to claim again, as long as you stay within the 12-month lifetime limit.
Who is exempt from ILOE?
Business owners and investors who own the company they work in, domestic workers, workers on temporary contracts, people under 18, and retirees who already receive a pension and have started a new job do not need to subscribe. Everyone else in the federal government and private sector must join, and new arrivals should subscribe within 4 months of getting their work permit.
